Now since both C and I are on a diet and we didn't have company coming over, it was only logical that I decided to make a delicious snack. This cake-like dessert is so easy to make and looks a lot more complicated than it really is. The only problem is that I cook using grams and milliliters and I'm not about to convert the measurements. So sorry. Also apologizing for the awful photos, Maddalena wasn't very patient with my idea of making a cake and taking pictures of it.
La Ciambella

Start off by separating 4 small (or 3 large) egg whites making sure to put aside the yolks.
Add a pinch of salt to the whites and whip them up.
Mix in 180 g. of sugar and your egg yolks.

Now add the rind of one orange and the juice from that orange, 6 spoonfuls of oil (surprise, I use olive oil) and 9 spoonfuls of milk- mix.
Lastly, add 240 g. of flour and 16 grams of powdered yeast. Oh, and sprinkle in some vanilla extract.
With your remaining batter add some unsweetened coco powder and a spoonful of rum. You want the batter to be a nice dark color so keep adding coco until you get there.
Now you are going to have a thicker batter, if it seems too thick to you go ahead and add either milk, cream, or butter (whatever you have in the fridge) until it's a bit smoother.
Pour that remaining batter into the middle of the original batter that is sitting in your tube pan.
Put it in the oven and bake until done. I do the toothpick test.
Here is the finished result- I forgot to take a picture of it before we started eating.
Enjoy!

Mmmm looks delicious! I will try my hand at something later this week and hopefully post about it on the weekend.
ReplyDeleteI always have the same problem. We have an espresso maker now but never anything to offer with the cappuccini we make, unless our guest likes red pepper or carrot paired with coffee.
ooooo! I will have to find a good cake recipe and post it here!
ReplyDeleteBut what do your friends' snakes eat on visits?
ReplyDeleteAH! I didn't catch that AT ALL!! Let me change that...
